KABR Annual Conference: Surviving or Thriving?

Registration

  • This price is available to Kansas retailers / members for the full weekend. Choose convention registration for all meals and events, and indicate which events you will attend. You can add a guest after completing your own registration.
  • Members may register two people at this link at no charge.
  • This Training is for liquor licensees and employees of ABC licensed businesses. Improve compliance with State and local laws and regulations. Promote the safe and legal sale of adult beverages,
    -prevent harmful and expensive illegal sales,
    - earn mitigation for future violations.
    Members are entitled to two free registrations. (KABR will have to adjust your invoice.) $20 for each additional registration.
    Certificate is earned by passing a test. Please bring a pen or pencil.
    We recommend retailers and employees attend training every two years.
  • Exhibits will be at Conference Center Saturday - 11-5. Includes listing in the Meeting Program, display table and registration for one representative.
  • For Industry members such as wholesalers, suppliers, or other licensees who are not an exhibitor, product seminar host, or other sponsor.
  • For invited legislators and guests, please RSVP for the Legislative Luncheon - 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Please feel free to come late or leave early according to your schedule.
  • For retailers or invited guests who did not pay the full conference registration above.
  • Please note that only invited industry suppliers, wholesalers and vendors are eligible for this category. Fees range from $250 to $500. Please contact Amy Campbell at 785-969-1617 to highlight your product for our members.
  • This form is for Industry Hosts to indicate which events their representative(s) will attend. Fees are collected separately. Please get the Industry Host Form from Amy Campbell or Jeff Grantham.

Friday – October 6

5 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.     Opening Night Reception with Legislators and Retailers  - Location: Larkspur Bistro & Bar - 904 East Douglas, Wichita, KS 67202  An annual event for networking with Kansas independent retailers and state policymakers.  It's fun and delicious!  Dress is business casual or casual.  Heavy hors d'oeuvres and beverages.

8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.  Registration & Seminars 

9:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.   Retailer and Employee Education Seminar:   - Certified retailer and employee education.  Seminar educates licensees and clerks to prevent underage and other illegal sales - and teaches you to find answers to your day to day questions.  

11:00 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.   A National Perspective on Shipping and Delivery - Dawson R. Hobbs, Executive Vice President, Government Affairs, Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America


12:00 - 1:15 p.m.  Legislators Luncheon - Annual Roundtable with State Legislators - featuring House Federal and State Affairs Chair Will Carpenter and Wichita Representative and Retailer Tom Kessler. This annual luncheon is one of the most important opportunities of the year to educate elected officials who control the changing liquor industry. Your attendance shows them we care what happens in Topeka.  

1:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.   Afternoon Sessions and Decision Making  

  • 1:30 p.m. Division of ABC - Annual Kansas Update - Debbi Beavers, Director
  • 2:15 p.m.  Kansas Industry & Legislative Report - Representative Tom Kessler and KABR Lobbyist Amy Campbell
  • How will Kansas regulators and legislators respond to pressures for changing the three-tier system, considering legislation to allow direct to consumer shipping, and delivery to home by third-party digital platforms?  How can KABR best represent Kansas liquor retailers as these pressures grow?  We will also discuss the impact of changing the residency law, summer holidays/Sunday sales ordinances, and charitable raffles.
  • 3:15 p.m. Credit Processing and Customer Surcharges  - Patrick Schreiner, Integrity Merchant Solutions
  • 3:45 p.m.  KABR Annual Meeting:  There are serious challenges on the horizon for the retail liquor industry.  Board elections and decision-making for addressing the 2023 Kansas Legislature.  Recommendations for the new year.  (Members Only)
