Kansas City Retailers Conference

Saturday and Sunday - August 25-26, 2012 at The Legends

SATURDAY EVENTS – Dave and Buster’s at The Legends, 1843 Village West Parkway, Suite 201, Kansas City, KS 66111        All meetings on Saturday will be held at Dave and Buster’s in the Midway Room – 2nd Level of shopping center - Ph: 913-981-6815

9:00 - 11:15 am   Retailer Education Seminar:  Earn your certificate for completing certified retailer education.  Seminar educates licensees and clerks to prevent underage and other illegal sales - and teach you to find answers to your day to day questions.  This seminar will provide the direction you need to prevent expensive fines and preserve your valuable business license.  You will receive handouts to use in your business operation, including the retailer operational handbook.   This seminar qualifies for diversions as required by the Division of ABC.  Participants will pass a test to earn their certificate of completion.  Pro-active training by licensees and employees earns licensees positive mitigation in future administrative hearings.

12:00 - 1:30 pm   Legislators Luncheon - Fighting Strong Beer in Convenience Stores and Liquor Sales by Grocery Stores... and other issues from the State Legislature - An Informal Roundtable with State Legislators. Key to the KABR's efforts to represent Kansas liquor stores at the Kansas State Capitol are one to one conversations with current legislators.  We will discuss the Legislature's view of preserving the role of state licensed retail liquor stores as the safest place for the legal sale of adult beverages in Kansas.  Perhaps the most important role of KABR each year - our Association continues to keep harmful legislation at bay - such as bills introduced almost every year to allow Strong Beer Sales for Convenience Stores and Liquor Sales by Grocery Stores.  This is a critical opportunity - don't miss it!

2:00  - 5:30 p.m.  Retailers RoundTable and Strategy Session – GOLD:  KABR members roundtable for discussing issues of interest and strategic planning – Includes a discussion of upcoming issues expected to arise in 2013.   GOLD stands for Goals of Liquor Dealers.  All Members Welcome.

  • New Kansas Tax Law – be sure your business is in position to benefit from tax changes passed in 2012.
  • Where We Stand Today and What is Next  - the fight to preserve Kansas Businesses and Jobs against the Big Box Liquor coalition.  Important information from KABR and Keep Kansans in Business.  Discussion of the elections.
